| Requests
for inspection must be made at least twenty-four (24) hours before concrete
is poured, after forms are set and proper grade is established. The contractor or owner must remove and dispose of all materials necessary to establish a proper grade. Forms must be straight and full four (4) inches. All fill must be of flat sand and properly tamped or rolled. Sidewalks must be full four (4) inches in thickness and not less than five (5) feet in width excepting at driveways where six (6) inches depth is required for the full width of the driveway. Generally, the walk shall have a downward slope towards the street curb of one-quarter (1/4) inch per foot of width. All side drive approaches between sidewalk and curb must be six (6) inches in thickness. NO CURB SHALL BE CUT OR BROKEN OUT BEFORE CONCRETE APPROACH HAS BEEN POURED. CURB CUT MUST BE MADE BY EXPERIENCED STONE CUTTER SEVEN (7) DAYS AFTER POURING. Concrete of not less than three thousand (3000) pounds P.S.I. or six (6) sacks of cement to each cubic yard must be used, the transit mix delivery slip should so read and be shown to the inspector if so required. The finished concrete shall be troweled and broomed. At intervals of not less than one hundred and fifty (150) feet a standard expansion material three-quarter (3/4) by four (4) inches must be placed across walk. All sidewalks terminating at street intersection curbs must have three- quarter (3/4) inch expansion joint at curb and corner slab. Driveway approaches shall have three-quarter (3/4) inch expansion joints at sidewalk as well as at the curb. The contractor or owner shall be responsible for protecting all material and work from damage by well placed barricades and proper lights at night. Proper protection from evaporation of moisture must be given during warm and dry periods by moistening sub-grade and covering concrete with moist materials or membrane spray. During cold weather proper protective measures shall be observed to avoid freezing. If Calcium Chloride is used, the maximum amount shall be two (2) pounds per sack of cement. Any part of work damaged for lack of protection shall be replaced by the owner or contractor. The owner and/or contractor shall be held responsible for any concrete washed into street drains and/or catch basins, by contractor or transit mix trucks. All debris must be cleaned off the street and sidewalk. The contractor and/or owner must keep trucks from crossing unprotected curbs and sidewalks. |
